Vampire Weekend Say Their New Album Is Finished

It’s been a tough couple of months being a Vampire Weekend fan. But now, finally, the band themselves have confirmed that their new album is complete.

The last few months have been almost cruel to any fan of VW, with relentless teasers and updates but no new music whatsoever. Back in September last year, frontman Ezra Koenig said the album was “80% done.”

Then, eight months later in May this year during a concert, he said it was 97.3% done. At that same performance, the band also debuted a new song, titled ‘Flower Moon’, which they said featured Steve Lacy.

But, coincidentally after the band played their mammoth headlining set at Splendour In The Grass, things really kicked into gear. Just last week, it was revealed that the band would be releasing the follow up to 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City with Sony, and reps from the label said that ‘something’ would be coming by the end of Q3 – which is the end of September.

And now, we’re at present day, and Ezra Koenig has, according to Pitchfork, told the crowd at Lollapalooza that the album is done and in the process of mastering.

THANK GOD. IT’S COMING.

In the mean time, let us revel in their rowdy jam sesh of Koenig’s SBTRKT collab, ‘New Dorp. New York’, from their Splendour set.
