Vivid LIVE‘s huge 2016 lineup has been officially unveiled in all of its radiant glory, with performances from the likes of international treasures Bjork, New Order and Bon Iver joining Anohni on the event’s program.
This year’s event has expanded to encompass 23 nights with 80 installations, taking over all new precincts across Sydney.
New Order will celebrate a stellar 35 year career with an exclusive appearance at VIVID Live for a retrospective at the Sydney Opera House. Their appearance will featuring two classic band performances plus two evenings with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Bjork will unveil the world premiere of her new virtual reality DJ project at Sydney’s Carriageworks as part of the festival, while Bon Iver will be presenting their most loved tracks, stripped-back and performed in-the-round at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.
Other shows announced around Sydney as part of Vivid Music 2016 include Esperanza Spalding, Sharon Van Etten, Deafheaven, Poliça, Tiny Ruins, Hiatus Kaiyote, Max Richter, Oneohtrix Point Never and more who will join Anohni, formerly known as Antony Hegarty of Antony & The Johnsons, who will play four shows as part of the 2016 festivities.
This year’s Vivid concert series will include a series of special events curated by the folks from Heaps Gay, Goodgod Soul Of Sydney, One Day Sundays, Future Classic and more, including a live show from the makers of game changing podcast, Song Exploder.
The theme for this year’s light show is “Songlines” and will be directed by the Opera House’s head of Indigenous Programming, Rhoda Roberts. For the first time, the eastern side of the Harbour Bridge will also be illuminated, while Martin Place will feature a 4m “Fountain of Light” that will, no joke, feature cascading “human water droplets”. Vivid LIVE will take place over two weeks, from 27th May to 13th June, as part of the broader Vivid Sydney light festival program.
