LA band FIDLAR are back with a super-meta music video parodying some of the most famous clips of all time, including iconic shots of Devo, Eminem, Jamiroquai, Soundgarden, Green Day and, of course, Britney Spears.
FIDLAR’s video for new single 40oz. On Repeat (below), manages to cover a total of 15 famous clips from a variety of decades and genres, and does so with that characteristically FIDLAR-y garage punk vibe. What’s more, the song is a taste of the band’s next studio album.
In a statement (via Rolling Stone) FIDLAR guitarist and vocalist Zac Carper says the clip is something of an ode to the band’s favourite music videos.
“In the late 90s and early 2000s, music videos were such a huge deal,” Carper says. “We decided that instead of making one overly slick music video, we would nod to 15 of our favorite music videos that we grew up with. Everyone in the band threw in their ideas.”
With the release of their 40oz. On Repeat video, FIDLAR have also announced that their second studio album, Too, which is slated for a digital release in Australia on 4th September. The album will be the follow-up to their 2013’s self-titled debut, and was recorded over a two-week period in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce.
Carper says the album will be a marked shift from its predecessor. “We could have made record number one again, but instead we decided to challenge ourselves and admit that we don’t know everything,” he says.
