Watch Foo Fighters Mash Up New Song ‘Outside’ & ‘The Pretender’

While it may still be a few months until the Foo Fighters drop their highly-anticipated new release Sonic Highways, the band gave some eager fans recent London gigs a taste of the record by mashing up a portion of new song Outside with a ripping performance of The Pretender.

As reported by Consequence of Sound, the mash-up, fan-shot footage which you can watch below, occurred during a London gig at Islington Assembly Hall where the Foos took the stage under the pseudonym The Holy Shits and again during the closing ceremony of the recent Invictus Games. According to the Sonic Highways tracklist, Outside is the album’s fifth song.

The band revealed early last month that the first song to be taken from the Sonic Highways album, which is slated for a worldwide release in early November, will debut with the premiere of the Sonic Highways television series. The series is set to debut Stateside on HBO on 17th October.

The Foos have been teasing the arrival of the HBO show will a series of trailers, one of which features a live performance of the album’s opening track, Something From Nothing. In their latest trailer, all five band members are discussing the making of the documentary and the album.

In the trailer, Grohl says viewers will see excerpts from the interviews featured in the lyrics of the band’s new material, performed in each episode. “So the finale of the episode, when you see us performing the song, you’ll recognise all of these references from stories that you’ve heard in the last hour,” he explains.
