Watch Genesis Owusu Make His Late Night TV Debut With ‘Gold Chains’ On ‘Colbert’

After a truly stellar year that included four ARIA wins (including Album of the Year) for debut LP Smiling with No Teeth, Genesis Owusu has kicked 2022 off with a bang by making his US late night television debut.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert over the weekend, the Canberran singer performed ‘Gold Chains’, which recently appeared on Barack Obama’s 2021 playlist. In his signature red blazer and with backing band in tow, Owusu delivers a magnetic performance of the Smiling with No Teeth cut that clearly demonstrates why every ounce of praise directed at Owusu in the last 12 months has been well deserved.

Smiling with No Teeth arrived back in March of last year, previewed with ‘Gold Chains’ along with ‘Don’t Need You’, ‘Whip Cracker’ and ‘The Other Black Dog’. We recently named it our number one album of 2021, describing the “politically charged and perfectly produced” record as “the only true must-listen” of the year.

Owusu and his Black Dog Band are set to embark on their biggest Australian tour to date in March, with five dates booked to mark the final Australian headline shows of his Smiling with No Teeth era.
