The Jezabel’s Hayley Mary has taken Lana Del Rey’s latest single ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ into triple j’s Like A Version studios this week.
The instrumentals, gang vocals, and of course Mary’s vocals and general ~energy~ transform the song. It takes ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ from an LDR signature solemn vibe to a song with this massive, euphoric energy.
It’s really, really good.
“I love pop music that is aesthetically pleasing. But also, if you want to dig deeper and find meaning, you can,” says Hayley Mary on the cover in her Behind the Like A Version interview.
“I guess because Lana Del Rey uses the past as a lens to look at the present, she has a wealth of beautiful language and melody to draw on.”
“While making it sound timeless, but also topical.”
Of course, as is customary for the segment Hayley Mary ripped through an original performance too.
Mary gives us ‘Would You Throw A Diamond?’ and it’s a huge vibe.
Hayley Mary’s iconic, entirely gold suit seems noteworthy too.
You can catch the ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ cover, her original ‘Would You Throw A Diamond?’, and her Behind the Like A Version interview.
