Rumours of a Powderfinger mini-reunion came true last night, with four fifths of the beloved Aussie band taking to the stage together for the first time since 2010.
Powderfinger guitarist Darren Middleton’s Splinters album launch show at Brissie venue The Triffid saw the muso joined by his former bandmates Bernard Fanning, Ian Haug and John Collins for separate songs, with all four gents coming together to knock out an extended version of Neil Young’s Like A Hurricane (below) during the encore.
Fanning joined Middleton to perform Lover’s Shoes, the track they sing together on Middleton’s debut solo album Translations. Here’s a clip of that track:

Footage of the four Powderfinger members performing Like A Hurricane — missing only their former drummer, Jon Coghill — has also hit the interwebs, and is available to view below. The performance was met with waves of applause from fans at the show, who certainly scored a tasty Powderfinger-flavoured treat.
Middleton and company wouldn’t admit to a full Powderfinger reformation during the show, and didn’t perform any Powderfinger songs either. Watch four fifths of the band reunite on stage in Brisbane below, alongside some choice photos from the show.
Rumours of a Powderfinger mini-reunion swelled earlier this week, when The Triffid teased that Middleton would be joined by three of his former bandmates, including Fanning, at his upcoming show.
Powderfinger were rumoured to be reuniting to tour in support of AC/DC earlier this year, but Collins later said the rumours were just “a big fat lie”.
Powderfinger went their separate ways after completing their Sunsets Farewell Tour in September and October 2010, with Fanning attributing the split to musical compromises.
