The first trailer has dropped for an upcoming Hulu biopic series about the Wu-Tang Clan. Wu-Tang: An American Saga focuses on the iconic hip-hop collective’s rise, co-created and written by Alex Tse and Wu-Tang’s The RZA, and executive produced by RZA and Method Man along with Brian Grazer.
The trailer shows Joey Bada$$ as Inspectah Deck and Dave East as Method Man, along with Ashton Sanders as RZA. Much of the trailer centres on the unofficial Wu-Tang leader’s early creative development – mixing on DJ turntables while watching karate films. “If you want to make it in this world, then put in the work”, he’s advised.
According to Deadline, the series is “set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic”, and depicts the clan’s formation as RZA “strives to unite a dozen young, black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.”
