This year’s Groovin The Moo train has been filled with cameos, largely involving Charli XCX. As well as jumping up onstage during Carmada’s set at Maitland over the weekend to perform On Fire, the English songbird also got collaborative during her Brisbane sideshow, pulling Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza up to join her for a tilt at Iggy Azalea’s monster hit Fancy.
Maidza had been supporting Azalea’s Fancy collaborator on tour for her GTM headlining sideshows, and their choice of cover may take on some special significance for some fans. Just last month, Maidza was inadvertently pit against Azalea in the Aussie female rapper stakes, thanks to some comments from legendary hip-hop figure Killer Mike.
The MC praised the pint-sized homegrown rhyme spitter at the expense of Azalea, so perhaps the Charli XCX performance was Maidza’s way of expressing solidarity.
