Ween Announce “Fucking Mind-Blowing” Reunion Shows

The first name in psychedelic comedy rock, Ween will re-unite for two shows in February next year in Colorado, with no word yet on whether there are plans to continue playing shows after.

In a statement as reported by Pitchfork, Ween said the shows are “going to be fucking mind-blowing” and that they will feature “new stuff that nobody has ever heard live before.”

Best known for their bizarre 1992 hit Push th’ Little Daisies as well as 1994’s Voodoo Lady, I’ll always remember them for their amazingly twisted and eventually rejected jingle for Pizza Hut. Have a listen here and enjoy the fan-made video that accompanies it.

Carving a niche out for themselves making the kind of strange and twisted pop songs that defined ’90s music television, their return comes as a breath of nostalgic fresh air for those of us in our mid twenties longing for some of the Ren & Stimpy weirdness of our childhoods.

Push Th’ Little Daisies even got the Beavis & Butthead treatment, Butthead labelling them as having “no future”. Seriously if you’ve never heard of this band, get some of their music in and around your earholes, as as long as you have a sense of humour, you won’t be dissapointed.

Last releasing new material back in 2007 with La Cucaracha, which featured choice singles Your Party and Buenos Tardes Amigo these will be the first shows that core members guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo and singer Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman have played together since 2012. Splitting after Freeman retired the Gene Ween name and called it quits to deal with substance abuse issues, which famously led to his onstage collapse in 2011 that in turn precipitated his retiring from the band.

3 years later now and following Freeman’s recovery and revival of the Gene Ween name earlier this year, it seems that whether the world is ready for them or not, Ween are ready for the world.

Announcing their return via the trippy video below, the band are primed and ready to assault the world with more wonderful Ween weirdness. And while we reeled you in by describing the video as trippy, really it’s just text over some old footage, so we’ve also included our favourite ween songs and video from over the years to meet your weirdness quota. Trust me when I say these are all gold.
