WOMADelaide Festival Drops First Lineup Announcement For 2019

Adelaide’s beloved WOMADelaide festival has announced the first 19 acts confirmed for its 2019 lineup, including the likes of three-time Grammy-winner Angelique Kidjo, John Butler Trio, Tkay Maidza and Julia Jacklin.

While Angelique Kidjo will perform the Australian premiere of her full-circle re-imagining of Talking Heads’ classic album Remain In Light at WOMADelaide in March, the festival will also host the likes of South African ‘afropsychedelic’ outfit BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) and Texan trio Khruangbin, who’ll be making their Australian debut.

In total, the first list of acts announced come from 14 different countries.

“With the combination of the fearless work of artists like Angelique Kidjo, John Butler, the wonderful voices of the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir, and Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe, alongside a powerful new generation of musicians, WOMADelaide 2019 is certain to be a unique and memorable sonic journey around the world,” says WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie.

The full WOMADelaide 2019 lineup will be announced in November. Until then, catch today’s first lineup announcement in full, below.
