The feathery masterminds behind Wollongong’s Yours & Owls Festival have just launched a brand new alternative club night dedicated to all things heavy, as well as the power of music to combat mental health struggles.
Rated R18+, the debut ‘Choose Life’ event will kick off at UOW UniBar on the 14th of September with a mighty lineup of local boybands — including Sydney heavy hitters Heists, Melbourne melodic metalcore lads Aburden, Sydney’s melodic hardcore crew Bloom, Wollongong melodic hardcore dudes Proposal and Shellharbour metalcore gang Ten Years Too Late — as well as DJ’s spinning some of your favourite punk/alternative/emo/heavy anthems.
“With the world spinning out of control in such uncertain times, sometimes we need to re-gather ourselves and find community in a common place of gathering with people and things we love,” the official Choose Life Facebook event description reads.
“We ask you to join us and: Choose the alternative. Choose loud music. Choose bigger amps and more distortion. Choose a scream, a breakdown and a sing along. Choose new socks and matching band tee. Choose DIY. Choose a journey. Choose a fucking instrument. Choose good mental health. Choose the good times. Choose to express yourself. And most importantly… ‘Choose Life’.”
There’s also a free shuttle bus to get you safely to where you need to go after the show, stopping at North Wollongong Station, Weerona, Campus East, I-House and Wollongong.
