Youth Group Reunite For ‘Skeleton Jar’ Anniversary Show

Sydney band Youth Group will reunite to play a one-off Sydney show in January 2015, playing their 2004 album Skeleton Jar in full, as well as tracks from their four-album discography.

Returning to their heartland of Newtown, this show will be Youth Group’s first performance in over four years, after the band went on indefinite hiatus back in 2009. Despite the hiatus, singer, main songwriter and guitarist Toby Martin has revealed that the band have still been playing together.

“We haven’t played a gig for more than four years. But we have remained very good friends and have continued to play music (often together)… I think we were always looking for an excuse to play as Youth Group again. The ten-year anniversary of Skeleton Jar just seemed like an opportunity far too good to pass up,” Martin has said.

Youth Group formed in 1998, and are best known for their hugely successful 2006 cover of Alphaville’s Forever Young.

Since going on hiatus, Youth Group members have pursued other projects. Guitarist Cameron Emerson-Elliott formed new band Community Radio, bassist Patrick Matthews formed Teeth, drummer Danny Lee Allen toured with the likes of The Drums and We Are Scientists, while Martin focused on his solo material.

In 2011, Skeleton Jar was voted at number 98 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 Australian Albums Of All Time industry list.
