Kimbra Focusing On Aus Tour Without Janelle Monae

Following the cancellation of her joint Golden Electric tour with US R&B sensation Janelle Monae, New Zealand-born artist Kimbra has revealed she now has her sights set on a solo Australian tour without Monae.

Leading up to the August release of her new album The Golden Echo, Kimbra told Music Feeds she is eager to return to Australia to showcase her new solo material. “My main incentive now is finding a way to get back to Australia as soon as possible and do a tour of these [new] songs,” she said.

“I’m super-excited to come back,” she added. “I think it’ll be even a better energy in a way because it’ll be like, ‘Wow, we didn’t get served this time so we’re gonna come back,’ and it’ll be even more energy than before.”

The co-headline Golden Electric Australian tour was abruptly cancelled earlier this year due to Monae’s continuing illness, which saw her Melbourne performance at The Forum cancelled moments before Monae was due to take the stage. Kimbra said that, while she’s an “eternal optimist with these things”, she can’t confirm anything at this stage.

“It’ll just be a matter of scheduling, you know? I definitely hope to resurrect that again,” she said. “I just say I can’t make any kind of confirmations on that, obviously because I know how busy she [Monae] is as well. But I trust that the stars will align for that to happen at some point.”

Kimbra also told fans to stay tuned for forthcoming solo tour date announcements. “I know the tour dates will be announced very soon for this record… I don’t know too much at this point about what exactly that is, but I’m sure next year we’ll be doing a bunch of stuff,” she explained. “I’ve pretty much had the whole year locked out to kinda get into that. I guess ‘watch this space’ because I’m sure announcements will be coming very soon!”

In the wake of the album’s lead single, 90’s Music, last month Kimbra revealed the tracklist for her new album and dropped two new album tracks. The Golden Echo is slated for release on 15th August and features collaborations from a number of high-profile acts including John Legend, Bilal, Dave Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Matt Bellamy (Muse), Mark Foster (Foster The People), Flying Lotus and Thundercat.
