Paul McCartney heads up a crack team of musical all-stars who have joined forces in an attempt to change the world, through song.
In a move reminiscent of the 1985 USA For Africa single We Are The World, Macca, together with Jon Bon Jovi, The Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Natasha Bedingfield, Colbie Caillat, Leona Lewis, Sean Paul and more have recorded a new charity single designed to raise awareness about climate change.
As NME reports, the idealistic if not perhaps slightly sappily-titled Love Song To The Earth aims to influence the United Nations’ Climate Change conference, which is set to take place in Paris this December.
Proceeds from the tune, which was written by Bedingfield, Paul, Toby Gad and John Shanks, will go towards environmental charity, Friends of the Earth, together with the UN Foundation.
The Love Song To The Earth official website ambitiously describes the four-minute track as “a song with the power to fight climate change and maybe change the world”.
“Some of the world’s biggest names in music have joined voices to inspire real action on climate change, and to support the United Nations’ call for a meaningful, universal climate agreement in Paris this December,” the site explains.
“Every time the song is purchased, streamed, or shared, the royalties go directly towards the efforts of Friends of the Earth to keep fossil fuels in the ground and lower carbon emissions, and to the work of the UN Foundation to inspire international action on climate change.”
