Hear Will Smith Return To Rap With His First Song In 10 Years, ‘Fiesta’

The Fresh Prince has returned to reclaim his throne. Sitcom star-come-Hollywood heavyweight Will Smith is back on the rap scene, releasing his first new song in over a decade.

The remix-collaboration with Columbian band Bomba Estéreo, dubbed Fiesta, features the rapper getting jiggy with some latino beats while he spits rhymes in both English and Spanish.

“When I was told that Will Smith wanted to collaborate on a remix with Bomba, I couldn’t believe it,” Bomba Estéreo member Simon Mejia said in a statement, via NME. “This opportunity to work with Will was beyond anything we have dreamed of… It’s just magic.”

It’s a far cry from the Big Willie Style rap of our nostalgic past, but the fact that Smith has broken his 10-year-long musical drought is itself cause for a celebration. Or Fiesta, if you will.

It’s the first new music from the rapper-slash-actor since his 2005 album Lost And Found, a fact made even more exciting by the recent revelation that he’s been in the studio with Drake.

“I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet but I’m exploring. I’m in a creative ceiling,” he said in an interview on his wacky son Jaden’s Beats 1 radio show.

“I can’t write and stop, I have to keep going and going and write them out,” he continued, before hinting at the upcoming collaboration with the Toronto rapper.

Smith has also previously stated that he’s recorded “seven or eight” songs with Kanye West.

Fingers crossed he’s not just being fresh with us, and that we might actually get to see a full blown wicky-wicky-wild-wild Will Smith musical return sometime soon.

In the meantime, check out his new track, Fiesta with Bomba Estéreo, below.
