Dillon Francis Slams DJ Mag’s Divisive And Confusing Top 100 DJ List

Never one to shy away from voicing his opinion on industry topics, Dillon Francis has torn into DJ Mag’s list of their Top 100 DJs for 2016.

Francis, who placed at #64 on the list, took to social media to question the merit of the list and to ask “what the fuck” it is actually for.

The list has been criticised in recent years for being increasingly arbitrary, and DJ Mag also faced industry backlash after publishing a 25th anniversary edition cover earlier this year that featured zero women.

“I just don’t understand the list anymore,” Francis said. “Is it for best producer? Or is it for what you’ve achieved throughout the year? Or if you are actually the best DJ?”

“If it was for best producer, this is kind of fucking ridiculous to me,” he continued. “Daft Punk is number 72, they just worked with The Weeknd. Major Lazer’s number 44 – they had the #1 record in the world forever, like with the most streams ever! So if it’s not for best producer in the world, then it should be for DJing, because it’s called DJ Mag.”

“Where the fuck is Craze and A-Trak on the list?” Francis said. “And if it’s not for that, and it’s just a popularity contest, then who the fuck are half of these people that I’ve never heard of in my entire life?”

Francis concluded that the list might be based on an artist’s culinary abilities. “Is it a cooking list? Can Nicky Romero make great borscht? Is that what this list is for?”
