The Beths Announce New Album, ‘Expert In A Dying Field’

Close to two years on from their last full-length effort, New Zealand indie outfit The Beths have detailed the release of their forthcoming record, Expert In A Dying Field.

Set for release on 16th September, The Beths began working on their new album in the New Zealand recording studio of guitarist Jonathan Pearce. Ultimately, the process was swiftly halted due to a months-long lockdown throughout the country. As a result, the group quickly pivoted, working on the record remotely, before reconvening while on the road, and ultimately finalising the recording during three days spent in a Los Angeles recording studio.

“I’m hesitant to try to explain this album to you. I might get emotional if I do,” read a post on the group’s Facebook page. “So I just want to say how much we enjoyed making it together, and how proud we are of it. Really proud! We can’t wait to share this music with you.”

The record’s announcement was also paired by the release of new single ‘Silence Is Golden’, and in turn is accompanied by a music video by Auckland filmmakers Sports Team.

“The song is about stress and anxiety manifesting as an intolerance to noise,” explained vocalist and guitarist Elizabeth Stokes in a statement. “Where each new sound makes you more and more stressed.”

The Beths had previously made their return earlier this year with new single ‘A Real Thing’, though it was described as a standalone single that will not feature on their upcoming record.

Expert In A Dying Field is set for release 16th September.
