Tim Minchin & The Chaser’s Chris Taylor Team Up For New Show ‘UPRIGHT’

Tim Minchin has just announced that he will be co-producing, co-writing and songwriting for and starring in a new show called UPRIGHT, created by The Chaser’s Chris Taylor.

The eight-part series will be centred around a pianist, Sydney-based character called Lucky Flynn, played by Minchin, who decides to drive across the country with his beloved piano when he finds out his mother, who lives in Perth, is dying. On this journey, he meets a “tough-as-nails” teenager named Meg, played by rising star Milly Alcock, and it looks like their quest to get this piano through the outback gets wild.

“From the moment I heard about the idea for UPRIGHT, I knew it was the show I’d been waiting to make,” Minchin said in a statement. “I like stories that make me laugh and think and cry, I adore the landscapes of outback Australia, and I love music, and homecomings, and characters full of flaws. It’s awesome to be writing with this extraordinary team, and I’m looking forward to acting alongside Milly Alcock, who I think is a really special talent.”

While we don’t have a release date for the series just yet, we do know that UPRIGHT will begin production in South Australia and Western Australia this October.
