The Plot festival is returning to Sydney’s Paramatta Park on Saturday 19th November, boasting an impressive line-up of local acts including the likes of Vera Blue, Thelma Plum, Montaigne, Buoy, Japanese Wallpaper and more.
More than just a music festival, however, the festival also recently announced their carefully curated food and drink offerings as well as a diverse program of different community groups and arts collectives and individual artists. With the festival only a couple of weeks away we figured it was about time you all Get To Know The Plot Community…
Bella Bruzzese
Hailing from Sydney’s West Bella Bruzzese is a local artist, photographer and designer. A textile and print designer/artworker at Camilla Australia, Bella has had her work displayed all over Sydney, from popular venues like The World Bar, Kit and Ace Surry Hills, to publications such as Vogue Magazine, Fashion Journal. Currently working on her own art-infused fashion label “BRUZZESE” she brings a burst of colour to the lineup. Check out her work at her website here.
Decks For Change
Decks for Change is a skateboard deck design competition that aims to raise awareness of issues and inspire change in the world. Founded Kirby Clark with the conviction that skateboarding changes lives and great design changes minds, the competition has become a hub of emerging game-changers in the art and skate industry. Winning designs are exhibited and auctioned at events around Australia and all proceeds go towards international charity Make Life Skate Life that empowers disadvantaged children via skateboarding and education. Queen Babs
Queen Babs aka Jane Balke Andersen is one of Sydney’s leading exponents of yarn bombing – which if you didn’t know is that street art you may have seen where people wrap stuff in yarn. Starting out in 2013 after teaching herself to crochet, Queen Babs has yarn bombed all over the country and most frequently around her home in Redfern. Initially inspired by the idea of making the city colourful, Queen Babs now thrives on making people smile and lifting the spirits of the community, which she is sure to do at The Plot. The Street University
Created by the Ted Noffs Foundation, The Street University is a youth development program that offers various community-based services and interactive spaces for people aged 12-25. Drawing on Australia’s multi-cultural and diverse society to help young people realise their artistic and social potential, the community of directors, mentors and facilitators serve as guides for how to transform your interests into vocational and education success. Suitcase Rummage

Suitcase Rummage is essentially what it sounds like, a chance to rummage through suitcases full of stuff or to have your own cases rummaged through. It’s like a market without the hassle or having to set up a stall. Open to anyone who wants to come along and offload some of their not-so-treasured possessions, this will be a great way to start the day at the festival. Find out more here.
Vyva Entertainment
Vyva Entertainment and the 4Elements Music Project is a community-based music program that uses the power of hip hop to break down barriers and engage young people in Western Sydney. Only started last year by Vyvienna Abla, the program has already received global recognition for its work and promises to bring some great vibes to The Plot line up this year. Find out more here.
Western Sydney Rollers
Founded back in 2008, Western Sydney Rollers has well and truly brought roller derby to the city’s suburbs. With none of the founders having ever practiced the sport before, they now boast three home teams – the Riot Squad, The B52 Bombshells and The Blackheart Brawlers. Growing exponentially from their shared love of the sport and relationships with each other and the wider community, WSR will add some kinetic energy to the festival.
This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the community program, with the likes of jewelers Chamomile Kitten, hair stylists and braid extraordinaires Eden Stylez, floral artist Groovie Ghoul, artists Phu Nguyen and John Johnathon, makeup and body paint artist Transforme, vintage clothing repurposers Vintage Virtues and both The University of Western Sydney Women’s and Queer Collectives all on board too.
