AJ Maddah Hits Back At Soundwave 2016 Ticketing Agent

UPDATE 17/12/15 5.50pm: Soundwave 2016 has been officially cancelled.

UPDATE 18/12/15: Eventopia General Manager Martin Cunrow says AJ Maddah is in possession of the money owed to fans.

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has hit back at the festival’s 2016 ticketing agent Eventopia, after the company issued a statement today distancing itself from the fate of Soundwave 2016, which remains at risk of cancellation.

After Maddah said the next Soundwave festival was in the hands of “some scumbags at Eventopia/Tickete[k]” earlier today, Eventopia said in a statement to Music Feeds that it “takes instruction from the Soundwave Festival promoter”, and tweeted that it doesn’t have a say “in whether the 2016 festival goes ahead”.

On Twitter this evening, Maddah has released his own statement, saying:

“Essentially here are the brief facts: Eventopia were supposed to give SW a scheduled advance to pay deposits to NOFX and [Bring Me The Horizon].

“Their CFO changed her mind and decided not make the advance but didn’t tell anyone. so we (SW & bands) waited and waited for $.

“If they had informed us that scheduled funds were cancelled we could have made other arrangements. So now we are in bad situation.

“There have been discussions today. I’m waiting on Eventopia/Ticketek to make their decision. We cannot hold festival without their support. As soon as I hear from them, I will let you know.”

Maddah previously said the fate of Soundwave 2016 would be decided “this afternoon”, but it still hangs in the balance.

More doubts have been cast on whether or not the event will go ahead next year, since Maddah said yesterday said that Soundwave “definitely” won’t be happening in 2017.
