Allans Billy Hyde To Live On Following Last Minute Purchase

Written by Mike Hohnen on November 28, 2012

Just when you thought it was all over. Like something straight from a movie script, Allans Billy Hyde has been rescued by Australian Musical Imports (AMI) who of course own what was previously their rival store Gallin’s Musician’s Pro Shop.

The takeover, which is effective immediately, could not have come any sooner. Just as it looked as though musicians all around Australia were about to be royally fucked, Con Gallin CEO of AMI, announced that they had purchased Allen’s Music and Billy Hyde, Australian Music Group, Musiclink, Intermusic and all the bits and bobs that go along with that. Gallin’s also confirmed that flagship stores Southport (Qld), Sydney, Alexandria, Parramatta (all NSW), Adelaide (SA) and Blackburn and Bourke Street, Melbourne (Vic) will remain fully operational.

Gallin also discussed the motivation and logistics behind the purchase during his statement: “My first job part time while at school was at Allans Music in Collins Street, Melbourne, and now I bought the company, although it wasn’t an easy decision as it’s going to take a lot of hard work and commitment to rejuvenate these stores. We couldn’t sit back and let Allans’ 160 year history and Billy Hyde’s 50 year history of supplying instruments to musicians disappear forever.”

“Mozart bought his first keyboard somewhere 250 years ago and The Beatles bought guitars and drums 50 years ago – the world will always need music and music stores offer everyone an opportunity to create it!..Our passion is to be the best musical industry business in Australia for the benefit of our customers, both beginners and professional. Music and musicians is what it’s all about and the only reason we exist.”

The news gets better: it has also been confirmed that most of the employees at the stores will keep their jobs!

If you were keen to take advantage of the situation and snap up an awesome deal, the liquidation sales are still going to go ahead as Gallin’s will be restocking stores with gear from their warehouse.

The Australian music scene lives on as strong as ever!
