Blink 182 Leave Interscope Records

Blink 182 announced only hours ago that the pop punk trio has parted ways with Interscope Records. The news came from Blink’s guitarist and co-vocalist Tom Delonge, who took to his Twitter account to excitedly declare, “Freedom!! Blink as of today, is now an independent Artist!!!!!”.

As noted by Delonge and reported by NME, the split does indeed mean that Blink 182 is currently an unsigned artist. Blink, who only released 2011’s Neighborhoods via Interscope, are currently working on a new LP expected out late 2013. At this stage it is unclear whether Blink will proceed as an independent artist or sign to a major label to distribute future releases.

Blink bassist and other vocalist Mark Hoppus recently explained to NME that work on a follow-up to Neighborhoods will be temporarily put on hold while the band visits Australia for Soundwave 2013 and a few sideshows.

“We’re going to tour Australia in February with Blink… [so the] proper tour and the new album probably won’t happen for about a year,” Hoppus told NME.
