Childish Gambino Just Hinted That His Next Album Will Be His Last

You might want to sit down for this, because Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, has just dropped a bombshell.

Performing at New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival last night, Glover closed his set with the Gambino track ‘Redbone’, before suggesting to the crowd that his next Childish Gambino album will be his last.

“You’re in my heart,” he told the audience at the end of his set, “I’ll see you later for the last Gambino album.” You can hear the announcement at the 5:43 mark in the video below.

This isn’t the first time Glover has hinted at the closure of his Childish Gambino project. In 2015 he said, “I guess Childish Gambino is like a period in my art time, and I want to have periods in my life, so I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings.”

Glover’s latest Childish Gambino album, Awaken, My Love!, was released in December 2016 as the follow-up to 2013’s Because The Internet and 2011’s Camp.

Glover is currently set to play Simba in Disney’s upcoming remake of The Lion King, and Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Star Wars film. He’s also working on a new animated Deadpool series.

UPDATE: Donald Glover has now explained why he’s bringing Childish Gambino to an end.
