Watch The Trailer For The New 21 Savage “Film”, Starring Donald Glover

21 Savage has released a four-minute “trailer” for what appears to be a forthcoming film entitled American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, in which he is portrayed by Donald Glover. The Childish Gambino rapper and actor also has ties to the project’s three directors: his brother Stephen, his manager Fam Udeorji and Atlanta collaborator Jamal Olori.

The trailer features Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne and Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin – the latter of whom is also portraying Savage alongside Glover. It features a previously-unreleased new song from the Atlanta rapper, and also directly refers to his 2019 deportation from the United States by ICE under the Trump administration as well as his previous criminal charges.

It remains unclear whether the trailer is for a real film or not. However, a “soundtrack” entitled Music Inspired by the Film is set for release this Friday (January 12). American Dream itself, meanwhile, is supposedly set for release on July 4, 2024 – a date celebrated in the US as Independence Day. Watch the trailer below.

21 Savage’s last full-length release was Her Loss, his collaborative album with Drake that was released in November of 2022. Despite topping the Billboard charts and going double platinum in the US, its release is largely remembered for the controversies surrounding it: Drake lyrically accused Megan Thee Stallion of lying about being shot by Tory Lanez (which he was ultimately convicted for) on one song, while attacking tennis star Serena Williams and her husband on another.

Furthermore, the duo’s staged media “appearances” to promote the album, including a fake Saturday Night Live performance and a fake Vogue Magazine story, landed them in hot water. The latter sued both Drake and Savage for the stunt, saying their actions were part of a “deceptive campaign” that was unauthorised by the company.
