Corey Taylor Says Stone Sour’s New Album Is Packing “Some Of The Best Shit We’ve Ever Written”

Stone Sour have got a new album in the pipeline and frontman Corey Taylor reckons it’s a banger.

As of right now, the band has written and demoed 18 songs for their sixth studio LP and are set to hit the studio in January, shooting for a mid-2017 release.

CT gave Billboard the official update on their progress, while talking up the new disc’s material as some of their best ever.

“It’s some of the best shit we’ve ever written,” he said. “I’m chomping at the bit to record it and get it ready to go. The cool thing is that it’s got a lot of different directions, but at it’s core it’s very hard rock, and I mean that in an almost sort of modern/classic sense.

He continued: “There are some hints of punk in there. There’s some cool hard rock/heavy metal. There’s just all these really cool elements that we’ve never really allowed ourselves to go into. We’re really to kind of push even further with this. It’ll feel like it’s all over the map, but it will be very unifying when everyone hears it. It’s exciting, man.”

Stone Sour recently released two EPs packed full on cover songs — Meanwhile In Burbank… and Straight Out Of Burbank, which featured their sick cover of The Stones’ Gimme Shelter with gest pipes from Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale – after naming Christian Martucci as the permanent replacement for Jim Root (awkies).

Obviously time will tell where Stone Sour’s new disc ends up falling on the spectrum of their greatest releases, but if we’re talking about CT’s other band Slipknot, well he’s given a definitive ranking of all of their albums from worst to best which you can check out here.
