ORIGINAL STORY: Further details have emerged about a bus crash in Sydney yesterday afternoon, which involved US musician and former My Chemical Romance member Frank Iero.

Iero and his band The Patience were set to play a show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre as part of their 2016 Australian tour, but the traffic accident led to the concert’s cancellation, and now NSW Police has revealed more details of the crash.

Police say the accident occurred at around 3:50pm on Park Street in Sydney’s CBD. The band’s tour van had stopped outside Twitter’s Sydney headquarters where Iero was scheduled to do an afternoon question-and-answer session with fans.

Police say early investigations suggest that a bus which was stationary behind the band’s van moved forward and hit the rear of the van that was stationary while it was being unloaded by three men.

“At the time, the final passengers of the bus had already exited the vehicle and the driver of the bus was the only occupant,” Police say.

Two men aged 35 and 42, who were standing at the rear of the van, suffered serious leg injuries. One of them was airlifted to St Vincent’s Hospital while the other was taken by road.

The third man, 29, escaped serious injury and was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises. The driver of the van, a 33-year-old woman, was uninjured, while the driver of the bus was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Iero has also spoken out for the first time since the crash, taking to Twitter to say, “Hi friends thanks all for the well wishes. We’re pretty banged up but miraculously alive& in stable condition. I’m still in a state of shock.”

Iero’s former My Chemical Romance bandmate Gerard Way has also shared a heartfelt message after hearing news of accident, saying, “I awoke to some very upsetting, sad, and serious news. Heartbroken. I know just as much as all of you but I hope the continued outpouring of love, well wishes and support help.

“Make sure to hug the ones you care about. Sending all of my love and thoughts to Frank and the boys.”

Iero’s bassist Alexander Paul had previously tweeted that everyone involved in the crash was in a stable condition, although he wasn’t present at the crash scene.

Investigations into cause of the crash continue, and police are urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Crime Stoppers.
