EXCLUSIVE: Watch ‘Frontier Psychiatrist’ From OutsideIn Festival’s ‘Since I Left You’ Set

Written by James Arnold-Garvey on September 16, 2013

OutsideIn Festival co-presenters Astral People have revealed details about their Since I Left You set, one of the most anticipated performances scheduled for this year’s event, and they’ve also given us an exclusive sneak peek at what to expect on Saturday with a full-band rendition of The Avalanches‘ track Frontier Psychiatrist.

Astral People Present Since I Left You will feature members of the Astral People roster, including Jonti, Rainbow Chan, and Moktar Youngblood and Daniel Finn from Polographia performing tracks from the seminal Avalanches’ record.

Speaking to Music Feeds, band leader Jonti gave us some insight into what direction the performance would be taking and the genesis of the idea:

“The ‘Since I Left You’ album is my favourite album in the world and has come in at almost every important time in my life. The idea came about for this project when I was asked to contribute to the forthcoming album by the almighty Avalanches. I wanted to show my appreciation. In addition, I always wanted to play OutsideIn Festival and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to present the show.

“I got the green light from Robbie Chater from the band and then had 3 months to put it together. I found the people perfect for the project and it’s been nothing up fun… I’m excited to present this life affirming album to the world in a live format for OutsideIn Festival.”

To give us a taste of the set, the full band took to Music Feeds Studio to record their rendition of The Avalanches’ Frontier Psychiatrist. Featuring live vocals, instrumentation and samples, it’s a highly impressive treatment and a great endorsement for their OutsideIn set.

Remember – this is just a hint at what’s in store, and Astral People have promised even more surprises come festival day. OutsideIn 2013 takes place this Saturday, 21st September at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, Sydney.
