Foster The People Have Released A New Single Via A Torrent Site

Foster The People have taken a slightly different approach to releasing their latest single The Unforeseeable Fate of Mr. Jones, dropping it for free on Torrent site BitTorrent.

The band uploaded a package to the site which includes this single, the previously released Ruby and the single artwork.

The band have been pretty quiet since they dropped their sophomore album Supermodel early last year but it looks like things are starting to heat up over at the Foster The People camp. It’s not known whether this is the prelude to an album or just a one-off release but it’s a welcome surprise nonetheless.

The Unforeseeable Fate of Mr. Jones is a little different than anything we’ve heard from the band in the past. They’ve rid it of any pop roots, instead adopting a ’70s rock aesthetic with frontman Mark Foster flipping between singing and ominously talking.

It may seem odd to release music through a platform that has been instrumental in facilitating music piracy, but it’s a tactic that’s becoming more and more common. Thom Yorke released his last solo album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes via BitTorrent and Diplo followed by re-issuing his 2004 album Florida on the site. Earlier this year Harlem hip-hop group Ratking also released their album 700 Fill on BitTorrent.

Seems like we could be entering the future and Foster The People are riding the wave.
