Gotye Takes #1 On the triple j hottest 100 2011

It’s no surprise to announce that Gotye’s hit song Somebody That I Used To Know (Featuring Kimbra) has taken the #1 spot on triple j’s hottest 100 for 2011. It was a pretty clear winner before it was even announced, with Sportingbet having a market going last month for it to win at $1.15 – with ‘Any Other Song’ at around $5.

Taken from his third studio album Making Mirrors, it features the vocals of New Zealand singer Kimbra, and is believed that the song was about a specific breakup. Though, he claims it was “definitely drawn from various experiences I’ve had in relationships breaking up, and in the parts of the more reflective parts of the song, in the aftermath and the memory of those different relationships and what they were and how they broke up and what’s going on in everyone’s minds. Yeah, so it’s an amalgam of different feelings but not completely made up as such.”

Well done Wally!

Other artists who did well on the list include Kimbra, Foster The People, 360, Grouplove, Florence + The Machine, Bon Iver, who had singles chart 3 places on the list, however, The Wombats took out top prize for the most positions, with an amazing 4 places!
