Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler has made a series of cryptic statements when asked about persistent rumours that he played on The Negative One, Slipknot‘s first new song in six years. Speaking to the US’ ABC News Radio, Adler said he “[doesn’t] recall” playing on the track.

After a month of teasing fans with mysterious video clips, Slipknot finally unveiled the first taste of their forthcoming fifth album earlier this month. It didn’t take long before fans noticed a similarity between the drumming featured on the track and that of the longtime Lamb of God member.

“I’m telling you: that’s Chris Adler. The mix sounds just like his tracks from Sacrament. It also sounds like his Black Panther snare. But most of all, there are a lot of ‘flam’ fills all over the song, VERY typical of what Chris does on almost every LOG song,” wrote one MetalSucks reader.

Asked about the rumours, Adler told ABC, “Right now I think silence is golden. Right now I don’t think those guys need me, or need me talking about it,” while admitting that he hears his style on the track. “You know, I listened to it and I thought it sounded a little bit like me, too,” he said.

“At the moment, I just don’t recall doing it,” Adler continued. “I’m getting texts and emails and phone calls about it. [But] for the moment, I don’t know anything about it.” Adler’s sentiments echo that of Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, who’s keeping the identity of the band’s new drummer a secret.

“We’re keeping a lot of that under wraps, out of fairness, because we want the music to speak for itself,” Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio (via Blabbermouth). “We don’t want people listening to our music and making up their minds about something before they even know what the music is.”

However, according to MetalSucks, whoever the band’s new drummer is, it’s not Adler. The popular metal blog claims “no less than four reliable sources” have informed them that Adler is not the band’s new drummer. Though according to their anonymous sources, “it’s someone big.”

Slipknot announced the departure of drummer and founding member Joey Jordison in December of last year, claiming the prolific drummer left due to “personal reasons.” However, Jordison later disputed this, telling fans that he was “shocked and blindsided” by news of the split.

Other musicians rumoured to have taken Jordison’s place include Jay Weinberg, son of E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg. According to Blabbermouth, reports indicate the band recruited Weinberg to play drums on the album and tour, which Taylor has revealed will visit Australia.

The band’s follow-up to 2008’s All Hope Is Gone does not yet have a finalised release date, though Taylor has said that they’re “shooting for October,” in time for their Knotfest events. The band recently unveiled the artwork for the album’s first official single, The Devil In I (see below).
