Kanye West is probably about to feel the wrath of the rock world after he called legendary producer Bob Ezrin — who has produced albums by the likes of Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper and KISS — an “idiot”, for saying that Yeezy isn’t on the same level as some other rappers.
In a recent newsletter published by music critic Bob Lefsetz, Ezrin says that while Kanye has made some good music, he hasn’t pushed hip hop forward as much as other artists.
“Unlike other creators in his genre like Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie or even M.C. Hammer for that matter, it’s unlikely that we’ll be quoting too many of Kanye’s songs 20 years from now,” Ezrin writes.
“He didn’t open up new avenues of public discourse like NWA, or introduce the world to a new art form like Grandmaster Flash, or even meaningfully and memorably address social issues through his music like Marshall, Macklemore and Kendrick.”
Ezrin, who admits that he hasn’t listened to West’s latest album The Life Of Pablo, goes on to accuse Kanye of taking part in “excessive behavior, egomaniacal tantrums and tasteless grandstanding,” and now Kanye has finally hit back.
Taking to (of course) Twitter, Yeezy has questioned Ezrin’s fame and musical prowess. Remember, Ezrin is the man who produced Deftones’ Saturday Night Wrist and co-produced Pink Floyd’s The Wall — the fricken’ Wall!
Kanye then suggested that Ezrin’s kids are ashamed of him, and even offered to send them free pairs of his self-designed Yeezy sneakers.
Then, Kanye tried to subtly hit back at the speech “you know who” recently gave at The Grammys.
“You know who” is, of course, Taylor Swift — you know, like Voldemort.
Kanye didn’t stop there though, finishing up his rant with…
Ezrin is yet to publicly comment on West’s tweets, but we’re pretty sure he doesn’t really care about them. Aside from his work with acts like Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper, Ezrin has also recently worked with 30 Seconds To Mars, Hollywood Vampires, Nine Inch Nails,
Voldemort Taylor Swift, U2, Green Day and more, so it’s safe to say he’s no “idiot”, Kanye.
UPDATE 21/02/16: Kanye has taken even more swipes at other music industry figures, taking on The Grammys, Macklemore, Beck and Taylor Swift once again.
