Experimental pop duo kyu have just dropped their eagerly awaited second album kyu 2. After a whirlwind rise following their self-titled debut release in 2011, the pair have remained quiet since then, opting to work on other projects, studying and travelling the world.
The new album has more of the unique sound that made us fall in love the first time round – impeccable vocal melodies and harmonies intertwined over passionate percussive and electronic instrumentation. If you haven’t heard them before, this is a fine place to start.
Prog fans might even hear a bit of Cog-style melody in the track Squint. Personally, my favourite is the moody ambient jam Samsara with hints of Queen and The Police – but the whole thing is pretty darn great.
