Live Red Art is relaunching next Friday 13th of May. Last year, the inaugural Live Red Art festival and exhibition joined art and social justice, 400 people, 25 artists who investigate a radical political perspective and 5 bands in a glorious day of creative resistance at Marrickville’s Addison Road Centre. To celebrate the ominous date of our 2011 launch (Friday 13), we’re throwing a party of monstrous proportions, themed “Stop Climate Horror!”

Their comrades-in-arms, the recently relaunched Newtown crew Reverse Polarities – featuring Billie Rose, P Smurf, Mute MC, Mikoen and Kit Complete – are helping out, bringing their brand of socially conscious, fresh hip hop.

Sydney trio Intentions will be supporting, with their super catchy DIY indie punk tunes.

And Live Red Art also have some stellar beatsmakers to see the party into the night, with local DJ collective Ultra Death Liver mixing their unique combination of dubstep, funky and hip hop.

Live Red Art is all about exploring the potential of the arts to reshape the world, and making social justice issues engaging and accessible to everyone via culture and creative media. So they’re threading the Friday 13th “Stop Climate Horror!” theme through all elements of this horrific evening of carnivalesque rebellion.

Drinks-wise, it’s all about organic vodka jelly shooters, and bicycle-blended marargitas. All drinks will be under $5, coz they’re all about keeping it accessible and easy on the wallet. There’ll also be a vego-friendly BBQ for those who are feeling snacky.

But beware, those who don’t come dressed in theme (think: nuclear victim, zombie climate denier) will be whacked with a $2 disaster levy doorcharge. And fair enough, this is a fundraiser for the second Live Red Art show at At The Vanishing Point gallery from September 22 to October 9 later this year.

Submissions for artists/musos/poets/theatre-makers and all people who are interested in combining art and activism will be open from May 13.
