New Tickets on sale for Powderfinger farewell tour

Written by John Ritchie on July 10, 2010

Previously sold out shows in Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Wollongong, Melbourne, Hobart (please see below), Sydney and Townsville will have additional tickets put on sale. These tickets are ON SALE NOW but numbers are strictly limited so get in fast!

From the press release:

To give you even more reason to get along to the Sunsets Tour, Secret Service and Village Sounds have also announced additional support acts for the tour with a myriad of popular Aussie acts thrown in the mix.

Playing the very first notes of the Sunsets tour in Newcastle will be Triple J Unearthed winners, West Australia’s The Ghost Hotel. Fellow Queenslanders, Operator Please, jump on board for the Gold Coast and the first Brissie show, with Jac Stone playing the second Brisbane show on 5 September. The Vasco Era join the tour for Tamworth, Wollongong and the first two Melbourne gigs, while Yves Klein Blue come along to play in Hobart and Adelaide’s 16 September show.

Sydney sees Powderfinger’s old friend, Big Heavy Stuff, joining them on 18 September and Ernest Ellis on the 19 September, for their Sydney Entertainment Centre shows. The Cairos will play Darwin and the Cairns first show with Last Dinosaurs taking the reins at the second Cairns show and riding along to both Townsville dates.

Paul Dempsey tunes in for Mackay, Rockhampton, Canberra, Albury, Bendigo and Ballarat with Jud Campbell stepping in at Kings Beach. The John Steel Singers join us in Toowoomba and on the Brisbane Riverstage 10 November show. Black Chords play Melbourne’s last ever Powderfinger gig on 29 October and Bertie Blackman joins us to bid Sydney farewell on 6 November.

Supports for Perth and the final Adelaide show will be announced shortly.

As previously announced, You Am I, will be on hand in Brisbane at the two very last Powderfinger shows ever to send off their long time friends in style and the tour main support acts are The Vines for the first four shows with JET on all the remaining dates.

Due to an unforeseen change in ferry running times across Bass Strait, the promoters have had to move the Hobart performance from Tuesday, 14 September to one day earlier on Monday, 13 September. This will ensure that all our Tassie fans see the exact production that is touring on the mainland and that all five of our semi-trailers can make it across the waters on time. Band and management are extremely sorry if this has caused any inconvenience. Venue details and line up remain unchanged. All tickets for Tuesday remain valid for Monday and any guests requiring a refund due to not being able to attend on Monday, 13 September, are asked to contact their point of purchase.

Tickets are on sale NOW with tickets still available in Tamworth, Darwin, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Albury and limited numbers re-released for Newcastle, Brisbane, Wollongong, Melbourne, Hobart, Townsville, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
