A Newcastle Venue Is Teasing A Massive Reunion Show By A Mystery Aussie Act

UPDATE 17/03/17: The show has taken place and the mystery act has been revealed.

ORIGINAL STORY: Yesterday Newcastle Live shared a guest list for a secret show at The Cambridge Hotel to re-launch the newly renovated venue, and now we’ve got the first hint about who the act might be.

Today the pub’s official Facebook page revealed the show will be the first live Australian show for the mystery act in six years.

So who might the mysterious act be? Well speculation across social media has seen names from Powderfinger, to Silverchair to the original Def FX lineup tossed around, but all three don’t seem to quite fit the criteria.

Powderfinger last played live shows in Australia in 2010, which would put them just outside the six year span. Silverchair on the other hand fit the time-frame, but given Daniel Johns has been spending so much time on his solo work it seems unlikely.

Lastly, while Def FX are reuniting this year they’ve already announced a tour for June and it would be odd for them to add another show months out.

The most likely candidate has got to be PNAU, who not only last played Aussie shows six years ago but are also playing a Hot Dub Time Machine’s Hunter Valley festival show two days later and so will definitely be in the vicinity.

So if all of this has perked your curiosity you can RSVP for free entry to the show, which will go down next Thursday, 16th March.
