Paprika Balkanicus Return to Oz by Popular Demand! Sep-Oct 2009

Back by popular demand after their first sell out tour supporting Cat Empire and an unforgettable Womadelaide appearance, PAPRIKA BALKANICUS return to Australia with an electrifying show of mind-boggling musicianship and witty stage antics that have won them a massive following across the globe.

Originating from Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, the band perform a fiery blend of traditional and Gypsy music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe across a repertoire of songs that mirror the longing, passion and joy of these hidden places. From silky-smooth stroking tones to lightning-speed furious arpeggios, the band showcases the beautiful range of violin melodies, intriguing harmonies on bass, and the odd rhythmic stylings of two accordions. Showcasing songs from their latest self-titled album, the sheer energy of this show will leave audiences begging for more.

Masters of creating an irrepressible and infectious party atmosphere, Paprika Balkanicus have wowed audiences across the UK, Europe and Japan, seducing masses at international festivals Glastonbury, WOMAD UK, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, and have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Royal Festival Hall, Carling Academy Islington, Bruntwood Theatre Manchester, Tate Modern, Black Box Teater (Oslo), and New Morning (Paris). Band members have previously worked with Nigel Kennedy, World Youth Orchestra, Neil Innes, and Tommy Emmanuel, and have won numerous awards including Spirit of the Fringe and the BBC World Music Award.
