P!nk Slams MTV Video Music Awards As “Gross, Embarrassing Trash”

P!nk has been left seeing red after this week’s annual MTV Music Video Awards ceremony.

Alecia Moore, who has always shown a bizarre amount of integrity for a popstar, has taken to her own private Instagram account to give the 2015 VMA’s a candid and heartfelt hammering, while lamenting the loss of modern music’s integrity.

Voicing her disgust about the state of pop music today, P!nk says she felt “embarrassed and sad” by the show and “let down” by her fellow artists.

“Music is supposed to inspire. It saved my life,” she wrote. “This trash won’t save any kid’s life.”

Though P!nk praised VMAs performers Macklemore, Pharrell Williams, The Weeknd, Tori Kelly and Justin Bieber (“pre-sob fest”), she notably left off the likes of Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Demi Lovato — who all performed on the night as well.

Lovato has since fired back at the pop-rocker, defending herself in a series of tweets:

Despite Lovato’s response, P!nk has been quick to shut down some media outlets’ attempts to frame the whole thing as a “fued”:

Though she arguably did the most eloquent job, P!nk wasn’t the only star to criticise this year’s VMAs.

Azaelia Banks was typically trigger-happy with her beef canon while saying basically nothing of any real substance, while Greenday’s Billie-Joe Armstrong and That Metal Show‘s Eddie Trunk slammed MTV for offering zero support for modern rock bands.

Hmmm a demise of musical integrity at the same time as declining coverage of up and coming rock acts?
