Prince’s Body Has Been Cremated In A Private Funeral Ceremony

Prince has been laid to rest in a private ceremony involving a small group of close family and friends.

The iconic musician’s body was cremated, with the “final storage” of his remains to be kept private.

As the Associated Press reports, fans who gathered outside The Purple One’s Paisley Park home were each given a special keepsake by his family, in the form of a round purple box containing a colour photo of Prince and a 3121 t-shirt (referencing his 2006 album).

It comes after the medical examiner’s office completed an autopsy on Prince’s body, with the official results expected to take “days or weeks” to come through.

The 57-year-old legend was found unresponsive inside his household elevator on Thursday, and his cause of death has still yet to be determined.

However, from the initial autopsy results, authorities have ruled out violence as a contributing factor and are also not treating his death as a suicide.

It comes after reports from gossip site TMZ that Prince was treated for a painkiller overdose in the week prior to his death, and rescued from the brink of flat-lining with a “save shot” that was administered after his plane made an emergency landing.

But when quizzed about whether the rocker’s death could be linked to the overdose, local authorities refused to comment.

Meanwhile, heartbroken tributes to the great Purple One have been flooding in from his fans and peers and even mother nature herself, while monuments across the world have been turning purple for Prince.

We’ll bring you more news regarding his cause of death as it develops, but in the meantime, you can celebrate The Purple One’s life by checking out this handy guide to all of the Prince tribute parties happening near you this weekend.
