Red Hot Chili Peppers New Zealand Setlist

The Red Hot Chili Peppers presence in the southern hemisphere has now well and truly been felt with the band kicking things off at New Zealand’s Vector Arena, perhaps giving some insight into what we can expect from their forthcoming headlining BDO performance.

So while you can’t expect the below setlist to be identical to their Big Day Out setlist, it gives us a good idea of where the band’s head is at. The list shows that there will be a retrospective tinge to their performances, though they do cram a few of the new jams in there – which may not be such a bad thing, as according to New Zealand Herald, the new tunes “get a badly needed injection of old-school Chili Peppers’ beef and punch.”

The legendary outfit gave a tip-of-the-hat to some of their fellow legends, including the resurrected David Bowie, by covering his tune What in the World, as well as Stevie Wonder as per their performance of Higher Ground during the encore.

Big Day Out 2013 will be kicking off this Friday in Sydney. Until then, the Chili Willies have one more NZ show to perform until they are truly Down Under.
