Sigur Ros Australian Tour 2012 Confirmed

It looks like Icelandic ambient group Sigur Ros will be visiting Australia in the latter half of 2012, after a recent interview reveals their intentions to tour here after some US and European dates on the back of their new album Valtari, which is set to be released on the 25th of May.

Update: Jonsi confirms Sigur Ros will be in Australia this November

Fasterlouder that points out the new that sprang from an interview with Drowned in Sound, in which singer and guitarist Jonsi Birgisson announced the tour.

after a “short North American tour and a few European dates as well as the festivals, then we’re off to Australia,” Birgission said.

There’s a chance the band may be a little bigger as well during the tour, with aspirations of being accompanied by a live string section, “especially when we’re playing the new album [as] it will be difficult to translate those songs live without them,” Birgission said.

Although Birgission also says fans should expect some oldies, “There are some songs that we haven’t played for a long time that may reappear on this tour,” he said.

Although the tour won’t be expansive with Sigur Ros looking to play about 30 shows during 2012, early specualtion is the band will touch in Australia in time for Harvest.
