With the epic lineups the burgeoning Soundwave festival has managed to pull for the last two years there’s been plenty of conjecture as to which artists will be fitting the bill for 2010. The following tasty list has been confirmed by festival organisers.
Pants were almost wet at the Music Feeds offices when we read that FUCKING FAITH NO MORE were joining the annual rock-fest, and with JANE’S ADDICTION making up for their failed Splendour appearance the lineup was already starting to once again look impressive… then we saw MESHUGGAH and the FUCKING EAGLES OF DEATH METAL were also on the bill, and Mikey peed himself… The full first lineup is as follows:

This line-up seems to be aimed mainly at emo and scene chicks. Quite a shame. Not sure i’ll bother just to see Meshuggah. Little bit of diversity please people. This is all gonna sound the same.

Yeah, this years lineup was heaps better, i knew they wouldnt be able to top it. I hate to say it, but i completely agree, we need more diversity, this is gonna be a huge emo fest. That stuff is ok, but its not for everyone, in the past years of soundwave there have been some excellent bands on the metal stages.
If the 2nd announcement doesnt blow our socks off, this is gonna be a bad year for soundwave. Theres gonna be 5 or six stages of emo, emotional, emotive hardcore, indipendant emo and alternative emo.
And one stage with the semi metalish stuff like Maximum the hormone, whitechapel, meshuggah and trivium.

When it comes to summer festivals, Soundwave usually has my vote, as many metal fans agree, if you want a good dose of metal then soundwave is the best. But unfortunately this years soundwave lineup is disappointing to say the least. There are much better gigs to go and see if you want metal (slayer megadeth lamb of god static-x devildriver), than to waste a buttload of money on a pissy soundwave ticket only to walk around feeling like you want to bash all the paramore teenies. Unfortunately unless soundwave steps up to the plate, and changes next years lineup drastically, then soundwave is fated to be the same as the failure we have come to know as big day out. So other people i would definitely be saving my money for some of the other awesome metal gigs from privately touring bands than blowing 110 bucks (or whatever)just to see trivium meshuggah and whitechapel (who will no doubt be on during the day anyway, which is shit. Soundwave theres no fucking way im getting sunburnt for this pissy lineup this year. Well done… Youv’e successfully turned soundwave into a britney spears concert.

I don’t think the lineup is bad. But I agree with the wanting to bash the Paramore Tweenies. I will be bringing some eggs to egg them with. I’m pretty excited, but I hope the Sydney organisers sort out last years’ issues though.
P.s, I’m pretty stoked A.F.I. are on the list. I kind of forgot I used to like them, back in the day…

I see what everyone is talking about, and I understand. Although, I have learned to expand my horrizons and embrace all types of music. I have to say that this is my first Soundwave gig but I am pretty empressed. To get such a diverse style of music together in one area is pretty cool. Dont get me wrong I am hanging out to see my favorite bands as well ie Cluth, Baroness, Isis and a few others, I just dont see what the point is putting people down for the style of music they listen to. But what the hell no one will probably listen to me anyway and if they do they will most likely blast me for being sensitive.

The reason people care enough to bitch on this site is because they feel they are a part of what was the only metal festival in australia, (with some scene shit on the side for those that like it). Seems like its reversed the trend this year which is disapointing. That and the nazi organisers remove any negative posts on the soundwave forums under the pretense it should be hidden in a enormous general info thread.
