Tame Impala Took Home Best International Group At The BRIT Awards

The BRIT Awards have just wrapped up in London and our very own Tame Impala were one of the big winners of the night.

The Perth band fronted by Kevin Parker won the award for Best International Group for their third record Currents, beating out Major Lazer, Alabama Shakes, Eagles Of Death Metal and U2.

Tame Impala lost the award for Best Alternative Release last week at the Grammys to Alabama Shakes, so they will no doubt be feeling good about grabbing this one over them.

Three of the boys were there to collect the award with Parker handling speech duties. “It’s already amazing to be invited to your awards ceremony, to this night, let alone be given an award to accept,” he said.

Courtney Barnett was the other Australian up for an award but she lost out to Björk in the International Female Solo Artist category.

Unsurprisingly Adele scooped the pool, taking home Best Britsh Album for 25, Best British Single for Hello and Best Female Solo Artist. Her speeches created many of the night’s highlights as she publicly announced her support for Kesha, cried through one of them and also swore.

She closed out the night with a performance of When We Were Young.

Elsewhere, Rihanna performed with Drake, Justin Bieber sang in front of bellowing flames and Lorde gave a brooding tribute to the late David Bowie.
