Violent Soho Announce New Album ‘WACO’ & Drop Brand New Song

Hellfuckyeah! Violent Soho have just dropped the motherload, announcing that their heaps-anticipated new album will drop on Friday, 18th March.

And they’ve even chucked us a brand new song to tide us over til then.

The track is called Viceroy and comes powered by a drunken bassline and a scrappy scream-filled chorus that is garage punk at its finest.

Viceroy is the second track off the follow-up to the dude’s 2013 Hungry Ghost LP, following their triple j Hottest 100-charting tune Like Soda.

You may recall Mansfield’s finest last year asked fans to help name the new record. Hilarity, of course, ensued, leading to possible album titles such as Bronwyn Bishop’s Handbag, the anagram-tastic Hot Oven Silo, the philosophical Shitpants: A Memoir and the lazy yet genius Hungrier Ghost.

However, the dudes have revealed that the winning moniker is WACO, named after the Texas city where a 1993 siege on the Branch Davidians religious sect, and their leader David Koresh, turned into a shoot-out with the FBI that resulted in a massacre.

Frontman Luke Boerdam described WACO to triple j as being like Hungry Ghost‘s older sister:

“Hungry Ghost dealt with the spiritual skeleton we’ve become from this spoon-fed reality,” he said. WACO is more about control and illusion: what the skeleton is being fed.”

The band will be previewing the new 11-track effort at their upcoming festival appearances, including Laneway, Darwin’s BASSINTHEGRASS and stepping in for The Jezabels at Mountain Sounds Festival, where they’ll be donating all the proceeds from their merch sales towards Ovarian Cancer research.
