We used to treat Kanye West‘s constant antics and seemingly endless rants about everyone that’s wronged him like a sort of necessary evil, one we had to endure in order to get the thing we wanted out of him – the music. But sadly, the music now seems to have taken a backseat to the rants.
Most recently, during his set at London’s Wireless Festival, West, donning his favourite face mask, followed the opening bars of his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy cut Runaway with a 15-minute rant in which he called out Nike, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, the media, and, well, everyone else.
Swathed entirely in Auto-Tune, the rant begins on an inspirational note — “Don’t let nobody tell you what you can do, what you can believe, what you can achieve. Don’t let nobody but you” — but soon veers off into Mariana Trench-like depths of self-indulgence, to which the crowd responds by booing mercilessly, or as The Telegraph reports, taking the song’s advice and just running away.
