“Daft Punk who?” is what many in attendance were saying over the weekend at Coachella after a surprise team-up between the great crooner R. Kelly and chillwave lords Phoenix. Together, the two acts fused their tracks 1901/Ignition and Chloroform/I’m A Flirt.
The mash-up is seriously tight and is probably the best of its kind since Linkin Park and Jay-Z release Collision Course. Some points should also be added for showmanship after the very classy introduction. Fade from black – very smooth.
The popular opinion seems to be that the collab stole the thunder from other acts on the Saturday night of Coachella, but you can see for yourself in the below clip, which is surprisingly watchable.
Phoenix will be welcoming into the world their new album Bankrupt! this Friday, 19th April.
