Western Australia’s Disconnect Festival has been axed, with organisers taking to Facebook to announce that due to “unforeseen circumstances” they’ve had no choice but to make the cancellation.
The festival revealed its 2016 lineup last month, and was set to deliver a bill including Chairlift, Band Of Skulls and Japandroids plus heaps more over two days this December.
Disconnect has been involved in ongoing pay disputes this year, but organisers told The Music in June that payments were beginning to be made, however last month it was revealed that some suppliers for the festival were still yet to be paid.
“We’re still owed money by the festival and sometimes it’s a bit of a kick in the backside,” David Coleman of Rockwest told the ABC, which spoke to four businesses which claimed they were still out of pocket.
Organisers made no mention of these issues in their cancellation statement, which reads, “Due to unforeseen circumstances that are completely out of our control, we regretfully announce that Disconnect festival is being cancelled.”
The post goes on to say that all ticket holders will be contacted by Ticket Booth to organise refunds within 10 days.
Music Feeds has contacted the festival for comment regarding its cancellation and its future plans.
