Macklemore is set to perform at the NRL Grand Final this weekend, and it’s now been confirmed that he’ll perform his Ryan Lewis co-written marriage equality anthem ‘Same Love’ before kick-off.
The song, which was released back in 2012 as the US continued to push for marriage equality, went on to reach number one on the Australian charts.
Macklemore will perform the track in front of 84,000 people at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium (and stacks more watching on TV) this weekend, joined by singer Mary Lambert, who features on the original recording and is super-excited to perform the song down under.

Allowing Macklemore to perform ‘Same Love’ is a bold move from the NRL, after the AFL temporarily changed its logo to say “Yes” in support of same sex marriage earlier this month.

Macklemore’s surprise selection for the NRL Grand Final was announced earlier this month, following rumours that the code was hoping rock icons Pearl Jam would play this year’s decider.
The 2017 NRL Grand Final will see the Melbourne Storm and North Queensland Cowboys battle it out on Sunday, 1st October. Singer Eric Nally will also perform in the pre-game entertainment, performing his song ‘Downtown’.
