David Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’ Musical Is Coming To Australia In 2019

David Bowie and Enda Walsh’s Lazarus musical is officially coming to Australia in May 2019.

The musical, which was part of the late musician’s final project (along with his final album ), will make its Australian premiere in Melbourne next year, after debuting in New York in late 2015.

Local theatre group The Production Company will stage Lazarus in the Playhouse at Arts Centre Melbourne between May and June, with a waitlist for tickets now open at the production’s official website.

The musical, which features 18 David Bowie songs, is inspired by Walter Tevis’ novel The Man Who Fell to Earth — Bowie starred in the 1976 film of the same name.

“Lazarus was a dream come true for David Bowie, for decades he had spoken about writing a show, and when it was announced off-Broadway in 2015 the entire season sold out in a few hours,” says Executive Producer Rachel D Taylor.

“When I read the script I found it incredibly moving, especially knowing that it was one of his final projects. And seeing songs like ‘Heroes’ and ‘Changes’ come out of the story was just spine tingling. It’s rare to find a musical like Lazarus.”

Lazarus’ cast and ticketing details will be announce on 19th February 2019.
