Tkay Maidza has announced she’ll release new EP Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2 next month. It’s the second instalment of a planned trilogy from the rapper, following 2018’s Last Year Was Weird Vol. 1.
To coincide with the announcement, Maidza has shared new single ‘Don’t Call Again’. The single follows the release of ‘Shook’ back in May and features American rapper Kari Faux, marking Maidza’s first collaboration since the release of ‘Awake’ with JPEGMAFIA last year. All three tracks are set to appear on Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2.
‘Don’t Call Again’ arrives with a trippy music video directed by Tkay along with Jordan Kirk, with animation by Babekuhl.
“We got to have a little bit of fun for this video. Isolation and lockdown measures meant that there were a number of limitations, but we leaned into this, with Tkay shooting everything in her bedroom over Facetime calls, and then having the team at Babekuhl create animation around the live action footage,” explains Kirk.
“We were lucky that this style of clip meant that we could also incorporate Kari Faux properly, with her shooting her part in Arkansas and sending the footage to us.”
